چکیده

A kinetics model for cellular repair and misrepair for describing multiple radiation-induced lesions (mutation-inactivation) is coupled to a twomutation model of initiation and promotion in tissue to provide a parametric description of tumor prevalence in the Harderian gland in a mouse. Doseresponse curves are described for -rays and relativistic ions. The e ects of nuclear fragmentation are also considered for high-energy proton and alphaparticle exposures. The model described provides a parametric description of age-dependent cancer induction for a wide range of radiation elds. We also consider the two hypotheses that radiation acts either solely as an initiator or as both initiator and promoter and make model calculations for fractionation exposures from -rays and relativistic Fe ions. For fractionated Fe exposures, an inverse dose-rate e ect is provided by a promotion hypothesis using a mutation rate for promotion typical of single-gene mutations.

The biological effects induced by high-charged and energy particles and its application in cancer therapy

The radiobiological effects of high atomic number and energy (HZE particles) ion beams are of interest for radioprotection in space and tumor radiotherapy. Space radiation mainly consists of heavy charged particles from protons to iron ions, which is distinct from common terrestrial forms of radiation. HZE particles pose a significant cancer risk to astronauts on prolonged space missions. With ...

Accelerated proliferation correction factors in linear-quadratic and multiple-component models

Background: Study in design to incorporate accelerated proliferation correction factors into linearquadratic and multiple-component models. Materials and Methods: Accelerated proliferation rate correction factor has been incorporated into the linearquadratic and the multiple component models by applying accelerated exponential cell growth to explain the tumor cell kinetics and estimates proper ...

Numerical Study of Blast Initiation of Detonation Using a Two Step Chemical Kinetics Model

The effect of chemical reactions on the blast initiation of detonation in gaseous media has been investigated in this paper. Analytical method is based on the numerical solution of onedimensional reactive Euler equations. So far, analyses on the blast initiation of detonation have modeled the combustion process as a one-step chemical reaction, which follows the Arrhenius rate law. Previous stud...

HZE Radiation Non-Targeted Effects on the Microenvironment That Mediate Mammary Carcinogenesis

Clear mechanistic understanding of the biological processes elicited by radiation that increase cancer risk can be used to inform prediction of health consequences of medical uses, such as radiotherapy, or occupational exposures, such as those of astronauts during deep space travel. Here, we review the current concepts of carcinogenesis as a multicellular process during which transformed cells ...

Relative Biological Effectiveness of HZE Particles for Chromosomal Exchanges and Other Surrogate Cancer Risk Endpoints.

The biological effects of high charge and energy (HZE) particle exposures are of interest in space radiation protection of astronauts and cosmonauts, and estimating secondary cancer risks for patients undergoing Hadron therapy for primary cancers. The large number of particles types and energies that makeup primary or secondary radiation in HZE particle exposures precludes tumor induction studi...
